He was Andrew Warhola

Greetings fron the Czech Republic,

We had our last day in Prague.

We have started pedalling away and toward.  Dresdin, Germany.  I will tell you how that is going in my next post.

Prague has been educational, but not as much as it would be if my brain was younger and could soak in more.

Our first day in Prague we visited the Prague Castle complex.

The second day we went to the Old Town Square and heard the noon bells ring all over, and saw the Astronomical Clock.  I took a video.

We then just wandered around.

Soon we came to  a museum featuring Dali and Warhol.  So we spent a couple hours there.

It wasn't original artwork but limited prints.

Andy published the Interview magazine, designed album covers, made movies, besides the Marilyn Monroe Prints  and Cambell's Soup  Can paintings.

I didn't know that Andy Warhol's parents were from the Czech area.  They moved to Pensylvania and his father worked in the mines.

He changed his name to Warhol from Warhola because it was easier to say.  I will say, it worked for him.

I also didn't remember him making a lot of films and that one of the actors shot him in the gut.

I learned a bunch of stuff in the museum.  Afterward we walked to the pedestrian bridge we had heard so much about.

Just walking from place to place was an experience.  So many narrow streets lined with four and five-story pastel buildings. Lots of arched passage-ways.

Steve pointed out the reason they didn't go higher than five story's was because they didn't have steel girders then.  The cement walls have to be thick to support the upper floors and the more you go up the thicker the walls on the first floor have to be.

Below is a picture of the tower over the entrance to the bridge.   It was very crowded and busy there.  There were so may places to get your portrait or characture drawn.

A few people kneeling on the pavement with their forehead on the ground holding a hat at the top of their heads. A humble way of begging.

There was nice views of the river from the bridge.

We took the trolly back to the Hotel and visited the bar on the 14th floor with views of the city.

Our last day we visited the technology museum.  And crossed the Charles Bridge twice.

There are rubber duck stores in Amsterdam, Berlin, and Prague.  What's with all the rubber ducks?

Our last day we had to try some traditional Czech food.  It was yummy and messy.

On our walk to the museum we passed a huge metronome.

From it we could see the Charles Bridge.

The museum of Technology was full of fun mechanical stuff for me to puzzle over.  Usually Steve figured stuff out, he is pretty smart about that stuff.

Below was a training bike.  Want more resistance?  Add a heavier weight to drag on the wheel.

Old suspensions were a bit heavy, I suspect.

A bamboo bicycle.

Steve explained the gearing below.  I am glad they came up with something easier to use.

We didn't just have lots of bicycles to look at, there were motor bikes, cars, and planes.  We ran out of time and still there were more topics like film and cameras and agriculture.

By the time we were done with Prague we were getting around pretty good on the trolley system.  We didn't have to use a bus or train after we arrived.

I keep forgetting to mention that I don't have phone or text ability here.  I got an esim for my phone that works great for data but that's it.  Steve bought a new phone that has international service in the plan.  He can make calls and text.

So if any of you have texted me in the past few weeks, hopefully I will see it when I am back in Florida on the 19th of May.

Next post will be about our self-guided bike touring days.  Till then, I hope you will be safe and healthy, and enjoy your moments.

    1. We still have very snotty noses and coughs. Sometime Steve's sinuses hurt. Cold medicine is on our packing list for next time we travel!

Six-Month US Tour Starts In Florida

Greetings from Fort White, Florida, We did it.  Despite mishaps and some angst, I am still feeling some angst, we have begun our 2024 Travels. Angst Last year we traveled together but I had Big Blue (my truck) and Lilac (my camper) with me.  And though I moved stuff into Steve's trailer and stayed with him, on travel days I was driving Big Blue on my own, and I had all the stuff that I don't use very often in my truck and trailer nearby. This is our first full season traveling with one truck and one trailer.  I am trying to adjust.  Steve is very accommodating and a good partner for this trip.  It's just me, worrying. And maybe some of the angst is world news, the US 2024 elections, and some of it is worrying about my son.   He just changed jobs and then in a few days he got laid off from the new job making him un-eligible for unemployment because he had not worked there long enough.  He will be fifty this year and I still worry.  So if you k...

Back In Florida, Reuniting With Routines And Folks

Hello from Inverness, Florida! We made it back to what I consider my home base, Inverness, Florida, on October 26.  Since then we have been kind of busy.  I love my Florida routine.  Monday, Wednesday and Friday I have morning exercise with friends and then the gym for weights and PT exercises.  Tuesday and Thursday I ride with the Withlacoochee Bicycle Riders (WBR), and on Saturday I meet WBR friends for breakfast.  I love these folks here. Unpacking and Reloading My truck was parked in Steve's Garage without the cap.  The engine started right up and the interior didn't smell musty.  Yay! My trailer, LILAC also did not have bugs or mice or any moldy smell. The next day I moved into my assigned camping spot at Oasis Mobile Home and RV park about three miles south of downtown Inverness.  It is a small spot and it took me a while to get it into position.  All my neighbors were out trying to help me with directions that didn't make sense....

Grateful for Head Nets in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota

Greetings from Grand Marais, MN on the western shore of Lake Superior, I hope this finds you well and smiling.  Thanks to those of you who commented or sent a reply or text.  I love hearing what you are doing and keeping in touch. I need to warn you, there will be a lot of pictures here, so skim if you want, pause if you are curious.   It is beautiful here near the Canadian border.  There are remnants of very old mountains, lots of waterfalls, and parts of the coast of Lake Superior look like the Northeastern coast of the U.S. We traveled north from Duluth to Grand Marais, some of the road runs along the coast with grand vistas.  We saw there is a paved bicycle trail in places.  The Gitchi Gami.  We parked and walked up it a way to get a better look at the lake and one of the car tunnels. At the top of the hill we saw a young woman learning to rock climb.  There are existing clips all up the side of that rock over the tunnel. There we also fo...
