Eclipse in Tupper Lake, New York

 Wow!

We chose the right spot.  Though we didn't hear any changes in nature,  bird songs or bugs, we got to be in front of a screen with a live stream from Nasa.

We got to watch the shadow of the moon on that screen from a satellite, and from the ground as several communities along the path of totality experienced the totality.  We watched the eclipse as it happened in Mazatlan, Mexico, in Texas, in Arkansas, in Carbondale, IL, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Niagra Falls.

What blew my mind was this: while we saw on the screen the totality in Mexico as it was happening, we were just starting to see the moon start to cover the sun where we were using our solar eclipse glasses.

We were blessed with a fairly clear sky, and no traffic or parking problems.  

We drove from our tiny home rental to Tupper Lake and we're there by 8:30.  We walked around, attended some activities, and texted friends and family.

The event was free.  Steve bought us sweatshirts to support the host organization,  the Adirondack Sky Observatory.



We got to see the diamond that occurs just before totality and just as the moon moves off totality.  We got to see sun flares and the valleys of the moon.

Amazing.

The glasses were a bit big for Joe the Troll, but he was happy they worked for him.




We waited a while as the crowd thinned.  Then drove to a pub where there was a promise of live music.



We saw a man there with purple shoes, purple jacket, and purple phone case.  Steve said, I think you have just been out purpled. 


I will end by showing a slide from yesterday.  If you weren't in the path of totality, it was cool, but well, if you were.... WOW. Steve and I were both glad we were able to be here.

    How very wonderful you two could witness the total eclipse - and watch the amazing live streamed NASA photos! What a special memory to share.

    Not as exciting but we watched partial eclipse in Florida. Interesting that you could see the valleys of the moon.

    Not exciting here at all in Milwaukee. So I watched it on TV for they were cutting in and out from all over the USA where they were receiving a Total Eclipse. Nice that you and Steve could experience the total eclipse.

Six-Month US Tour Starts In Florida

Greetings from Fort White, Florida, We did it.  Despite mishaps and some angst, I am still feeling some angst, we have begun our 2024 Travels. Back In Florida, Reuniting With Routines And Folks

 Hello from Inverness, Florida! We made it back to what I consider my home base, Inverness, Florida, on October 26.  Since then we have been kind of busy.  I love my Florida routine.  Monday, Wednesday and Friday I have morning exercise with friends and then the gym for weights and PT exercises.  Tuesday and Thursday I ride with the Withlacoochee Bicycle Riders (WBR), and on Saturday I meet WBR friends for breakfast.  I love these folks here. Unpacking and Reloading My truck was parked in Steve's Garage without the cap.  The engine started right up and the interior didn't smell musty.  Yay! My trailer, LILAC also did not have bugs or mice or any moldy smell. The next day I moved into my assigned camping spot at Oasis Mobile Home and RV park about three miles south of downtown Inverness.  It is a small spot and it took me a while to get it into position.  All my neighbors were out trying to help me with directions that didn't make sense....

 It is pronounced New-fun- LAND.  Each time I say the word, I have to say it one or two more times because the new-fun part is said fast and the accent is on the LAND.  NewfunLAND.  Old habits and old pronunciations are hard to break.
