Hey There! We are near Lake Placid, New York,
We flew to New York on Wednesday. The wind was blowing as we were driving to the airport and I kept checking to see if our flight was canceled. But it wasn't. The ride was bumpy until we got well above the clouds. Then it was bumpy again as we descended to Albany, New York.
Later I saw there were tornado watches in our area of Florida.
Steve's daughter is a teacher and was on spring break. She offered to pick us up from the airport. That was great!
She even made us home made tomato soup and a lovely salad. That was very welcome because Steve's house had been completely shut down over the winter. It was cold there and he had to turn on the water and the heat. We stayed bundled up as we ate the hot soup. Thanks, Erin! She is so thoughtful, like her dad.
We had enough day left after eating that we drove over to see Steve's Mom. She was looking great and having a good day. Later during our trip we are going to help her celebrate her 90th birthday. Her earlier celebration was snowed out so we are lucky the family rescheduled for when we are in town. I will meet some more of Steve's family then.
I used my heating pad to warm up the bed a bit that firstnight. By morning the house was toasty warm and there was a fresh wet snow clinging to the trees around the house.
I used Steve's car and drove to Anytime. Driving in snow is like riding a bicycle, you don't forget how to do it no matter how long it has been. And it has been a while since I last drove in or played in the snow... I think.
Saturday we packed up food and lots of warm clothes for a few days in the Adirondacs. The solar eclipse will be Monday and we are in the path of totality.
I am excited. The area is expecting over 100,000 people. Parking will be the biggest issue. We are trying to decide where we want to be for the event.
On the way we stopped at a mountaineering store. Steve bought some children's books for Erin's classroom. I was surprised to see the dedication was to a woman named Bruce. I was thinking my friend Bruce was the only woman in the world named Bruce. Maybe she is and her sibling writes children's books.
We hauled everything in from the car before we took our boots off and tried to find places for our stuff.
We carried lots of food because we heard the restaurants will be crowded with all the people coming to the area.
Tomorrow we will check out another couple of possible viewing areas.
This is quite the fun adventure!
I laughed when I saw the childrens book, Dragons Love Tacos" for I had that book in my classroom. Love the tiny house. Christopher always loves watches shows with tiny homes. Sounds like you are enjoying life. Good for you. Melody Doll
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful experience in so many ways. I think the tiny house looks perfect for more adventures besides eclipse viewing. How many nights will you be there.
ReplyDeleteFour nights. Hopefully avoiding the rush as peoplw.leave the area.
DeleteGlad you’re having a great time! Snow’s very pretty seeing it from here
ReplyDeleteI love new adventures! How "tiny" is tiny house??! Saw pics...Burlington VT is already mobbed!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how tiny. I think about 10 ft wide and 25 ft long? plus a loft over the kitchen and bathroom. They call it a mico. Next door was a bigger one, that was probably the official "Tiny" size.
Deletewhenever we went to Lake Placid (often) we stayed at Sherwood Forest (just before you enter town) tiny little cabins with fireplaces...adorable. Check it out! a lake ...canoe/kayak rentals
