2023 Steve and Sue's Wisconsin Bicycle Tour Begins

The early signs this morning were not boding well.

i dropped my deoderant and it busted.  Fortu ately I had my full size one in the car that was still with us.

I had my first biking-day outfit in a baggie.  I whipped out my pink shirt to discover it was a pink nighty, not a shirt!  Omg!  I debated about wearing it...  but it would not protect me from the sun.

Fortunately a dig deep into my clothing stuff bag, I found I had packed a different pink shirt.  Perfect!

I woke with a decision on the shoes.  I am wearing my Chaco sandals.  Good for biking and the shower and walking.  Most days will be in the 90s.  So sandals will do nicely.

We got all packed up and Steve was about to take a picture of our bikes when a woman walking by offered to take our picture!

When you have your bikes fully loaded people are friendlier.

We started to roll.  Happy happy!  A few stops to adjust gear.  I was thinking we'd have to take a hilly road to get to the trail, but the Great River Bicycle Trail is right outside the East entrance.

We were just about to turn onto the trail when Steve stopped to check his phone.  I passed him and got on the trail.  I went a way and didn't see him follow.  I called for him, no Steve.  I started to laugh.  Not even a mile into our trip and I have lost him.

I turned around and started to pedal back when my phone rang.  Fortunately we had service.   He had missed the turn.  I told him to go back to where we were last together.  We found each other there.

We headed down the trail and stopped at a gas station to fill our coffee mugs.  I started to fill mine and coffee started spilling every where!  What???

Oh!  I had forgotten to remove the lid.

Lol.  There were lots of napkins nearby.  Disaster cleaned up and mugs filled.  I was feeling great.  Free, minus the truck and decisions about stuff.  The stuff we have is what we will have.  Done.

So far the ride has been lovely.  We saw a large number of egrets and a couple Pelicans.  I swear I saw a wood stork, a large white bird with dark wing tips.

We have stopped in West Salem at a Subway for lunch.  We got a booth with a plug in next to it and are charging our phones and I am updating you!

One more story.

While in Rhinelander, I sent pictures of me in different dresses to some friends to get advice on which one to wear at the Washington wedding we are going to.

Two wrote back, the pink flowery one for sure!  Another one wrote back, definately not the pink flowery one!

Lol.

I went to a qi Gong class.  The gals and Mary and I went for coffee afterwards.   Dotty, the instructor told a story about her brother.  He was watching his kids while his wife was out of town.  His wife is very nice and very very neat.  She hates, hates glitter.

The husband took the hids to get toys and one of the kids chose and art project thing with a box of glitter.  While opening the box, it spilled.  The husband thought, no problem and went to the garage for his shop vacuum.

Only he for got to check if it was sucking or blowing.

You guessed it.  Glitter everywhere!

Anyway, I showed them the pictures of the dresses and they said keep shopping.  Then they took me to a thrift store and helped me pick out a dress they all loved.

Gotta go now.  Time to ride!

  4. Steve has a wonderful trike! I just thought we were hauling enough stuff and we needed our gravel bikes for the C&O canal trail we are riding in September, 2023. Our trikes are getting a nice rest in Florida out of the humidity.

Launch Celebrations

Slooowly making my way to Wisconsin, but first this, and this, and this.

Greetings!  I am back in the lovely state of New York. This will be a long post with a lot of pictures.  So skim if you want.  I just wanted you to know I am still thinking of you and wanting to share the sites with you. I am on my way to Wisconsin.  I have been on my way, kind of, since I left Florida in late April.  But I took a few side trips.  I wanted to see New York and Vermont and see friends in Canada.  I wanted to spend time with Steve, I wanted to see Steve's New York home, and I wanted to meet his extended family. Right now I am near Niagara Falls on the American side. My friends, Jean and Keith are in a motel near my campground to visit me.  I had planned on writing to you today. It will be my last chance to connect with you until after Steve and I return to his home to prepare for the Gap and C&O ride. In between, there will be lots of days of driving, a full week of riding in Wisconsin as Steve and I do a little tour,   and lots of site-seeing and visiting friends

The Lovely Finger Lakes Region, NY

Greetings from the Watkins Glen Public Library. The library is in the same building as  the  International Motor Racing Research Center .   Watkins Glen, NY has a 6.6 mile racing route. Watkins Glen State Park Watkins Glen State Park, where I am camped, is on a hill above town.   When I drove in to get to my camping spot I saw a lot of the same brand of campers throught the campground.  Altos were having a gathering.  I had researched these campers when I was dreaming of driving the country.  They are made in Canada and currently there is a two year wait to receive one once you order it. The first morning I was in the park, I drove part-way down the hill and then walked the Gorge, which is a big feature of this park. The instructions on the campground map was to stay to the right of a pond and then go down "Coaches Staircase". While I walked the Gorge trail, I kept saying "WOW!".  The CCC's had created the stone stairs and walkways. Then I remembered Steve compa
